PARACHUTE Cast

Fast water, various currents and deep holes - some difficulties that should overcome the fly fisherman to come ultimately to success. Luckily, there are some special trick and casts to help us to present our best fly. One of the most important of these is the so called Parachute or Pile Cast.

This litter is interpreted by the ignorant as often casting errors or bad casts, but it really has in itself and is probably one of the most important special casts, which should for the provision of artificial flies dominate especially in faster waters. Through him the clean drift a dry fly can be extended nymphs bringing in fast water to the desired depth. But also some other benefits from the union with himself.
The basis of this litter is the overhead cast, but also with water drafts such as roll cast or Switch Cast he can run very well. As with the normal overhead cast to describe in the charge motion in a straight path, but not parallel to the ground (horizontal), but at an angle of 30-60 ° with respect to the top. That is, we again describe a straight path with our rod tip and try to keep the cord loop tight so as not to lose at line speed. As with the normal overhead cast also the final stop at the end of the movement is very important in order to give the necessary impetus to the string and the string to control.

To learn this litter there are also preliminary exercises that can be practiced in the meadow:
- She Insert the string through a discard on the floor and leave them there they lie in a stretched position. Now they have sufficient time to focus on the allegation and it perform slowly. Choose a not too steep trajectory at the beginning and try to comply with them!

- Try to make a discard with increasing speed to get to casting energy, they go limp in the forward movement and they wear out with a stop in a high Endhaltung the hand and arm to casting from

- Make it more teaching casts and try to vary it or to shift the range of motion. Its trajectory changes from horizontal to the ground in a straight line which is in each case at a predetermined angle to the horizontal. That when the tail stops forward a little deeper, they must remain behind are somewhat higher for the line to be observed, and of course vice versa, as we need it for the Parachute

The Fly now falls like a parachute hanging down and the leader and fly line are collapsing. Depending on the slope of the angle of the trajectory is more or less string together.
With a tip of tail lowered at the end of the forward movement we can increase this effect and their controlling.

Depending on the flow velocity or water depth, it is now advisable to have more or less line coincide. When fishing with the nymph causes this effect, that a nymph in the flow can easily fall. You will not be slowed down by the surface of the leader at the sink, since this is in loose strokes over each other or next to each other and so far less resistance to the water than a stretched front compartment. Also easy complained flies and very small nymphs can offer deeper in this way and forgo additional weightings. The collapsed Fly Line also has a very good on the drift. Irregular flows can be compensated and the nymph gets only an unnatural train as soon as the entire fly line and the leader have stretched. We thereby gain valuable seconds and a natural drift of the fly, which is also called "Dead-drift". For this type of presentation, the use of a bite alarm or a visual aid is recommended, because the cautious bites can often be recognized only with difficulty otherwise.

By this litter also draft-free drift a dry fly can be prolonged because leader and fly line must first stretch to move the fly. In an opposite eddies as some offered by this litter dry fly has already spent one or two seconds longer and so lead to success! But also presents normal upstream or-from almost never hurts a slight effect in the Parachute leader to protect the fly against unnatural train with faster currents.

Great advantages offered by the Parachute also if you want to string in the water "coming". If you want to bring the stretched fly line in a different location, it often happens that moving the fly or nymph at the end of the leader or raises again. This can lead to a setting of the dry fly or an unwanted move up the nymph. By the parachute litter they have sufficient leeway in their fly line to lift it without having to bring their fly on the desired destination away, and their fly line in the ideal position on the water.

A tip for Menden: Try to always lift out the cord as far as possible from the water, they go only in the desired direction to the left or right. So we describe a right angle with the rod tip - lifting -> then just change position! By raising the string, it can be brought in a different position easily and without many noises. If you go too fast the direct route is usually the cord hanging in the water and it remains a big bow of our draft-free drift shortened considerably. And always remember: it always comes down all by themselves, the less they do the smoother it will come up again on the water!

The fly fishing has enjoyed more and more popular in recent years and this has naturally led to a greater fishing pressure. But not only fishermen but also the fish have learned to do so. If you have mastered a few tricks, such as the Parachute Cast, you can still catch the odd fish more!
